Commission Wood Carving

Hand-Carved Wood Carving - Free Worldwide Shipping with No Duty Tax

Looking for a custom wood carving made entirely by hand? My name is Wayan, and I accept commission orders for wood relief and sculptural carvings. I create each piece from solid natural hardwood using traditional carving techniques.

All images below show the real carving process of an actual commissioned sculpture. I do not use machines, molds, or shortcuts. Every piece is fully hand-carved.

The Real Hand-Carved Process

Client Design / Reference

Client provided design reference

Every commission begins with a design or reference provided by the buyer. For this project, the client requested a custom carving inspired by The Angel of Merle Hay Mall statue.

This reference image guides proportion, pose, expression, and overall character before carving starts.

Step 1. Pattern Design & Proportion Planning

After reviewing the reference, I draw a paper pattern and place it directly on the wood. Using a proportional grid, I control scale, anatomy, and balance before carving begins.

Step 2. Raw Wood Preparation

Next, the sculpture starts from a solid block of natural wood. For this project, I use Suar wood because of its strength and beautiful grain.

At this stage, I carefully plan grain direction to support fragile areas and improve long-term durability.

Step 3. Rough Blocking (0–20%)

Once preparation is complete, I remove large amounts of material. During this phase, I define the main silhouette, posture, and balance.

Although the carving still looks rough, the structure already takes shape.

Step 4. Form Development (20–50%)

As the work continues, the figure becomes readable. I clearly define the head, torso, and limbs while keeping the surface intentionally rough.

Step 5. Advanced Shaping (50–80%)

After the main form is established, I refine movement and anatomy. Muscle definition, facial structure, and body flow begin to appear.

Step 6. Detailing & Expression

At this stage, the sculpture gains life. I carve facial expression, texture, and fine transitions entirely by hand.

Most of the carving time happens here, which is why patience and precision matter.

Step 7. Finished Sculpture

Finally, the sculpture is completed as a one-of-a-kind wooden artwork. I do not use CNC machines, casting, or duplication methods.

Natural variations in the wood ensure that every piece is truly unique.
